The wall was never the price

A developer in Lagos and a developer in Berlin can reach the same models. Only one of them can pay for them, because paying needs a card that works across borders and a currency that holds its value between the top-up and the request. We fixed the part that was actually broken, which is why the minimum here is one dollar rather than the five or ten that a flat card fee forces.

Measure, do not estimate

The same sentence in Swahili costs more to process than in English, because the tokenizer was not built with it in mind. Everyone in this industry knows that and nobody publishes the number. We measured it on FLORES-200, 1,012 professionally translated sentences, against every model we serve, and where we have not measured it we print not measured rather than a guess.

A price you find out later is not a price

Money that leaves an account in shillings should be quoted in shillings, at a rate stated before the payment rather than converted quietly afterwards. Every response we return carries what it cost, and the checkout page shows the total before you confirm it.

Say what is not built

Our roadmap carries no dates, because a date is a promise and we would rather be held to the record than to a plan. The same rule cuts the other way: a model licensed so that nobody may serve it commercially is absent from our catalogue and named as absent, instead of being quietly swapped for a weaker one.
