Terms of use

Dawnstack sells access to AI models through an API that is compatible with OpenAI's. You top up a prepaid balance, and requests spend it. There is no subscription and no monthly commitment.

The models are made by other companies. We serve them, we publish what we charge for them, and we do not claim to have built them.

Your balance is prepaid and denominated in US dollars. You can top up from $1.00, and it does not expire.

Prices are set in US dollars because that is the currency our own costs are in. You can pay in your local currency, converted at the day's rate, and the exact total is shown before you confirm. You receive the full dollar amount you bought.

Your balance is not a deposit, not a stored-value instrument and not money you hold with us. It can only be spent on Dawnstack inference. It is non-transferable, cannot be withdrawn as cash, and has no cash value outside the service. It is not refundable except where these terms say otherwise.

We can change prices. A repricing changes what new requests cost and never what your existing balance is worth.

You are billed on the token counts the model actually returns, never on an estimate. Before a request runs we set aside enough of your balance to cover the largest reply you asked for, and the unused part is returned when the request finishes.

If the model fails, the whole reservation is returned and you pay nothing.

If you disconnect part way through a streamed reply, you are still billed for what the model generated before you left. The model does not stop when you close the connection, and our supplier bills us for those tokens.

Some models think before answering, and that thinking is billed. It can cost far more than the visible reply, so a model marked as reasoning is flagged as such wherever you choose one.

You are responsible for your API keys. A key is a secret: use it from a server, never from a browser or a mobile app, where anyone can read it.

Requests made with your key are billed to your balance, whoever made them. If a key leaks, revoke it in the dashboard. Revocation takes effect immediately.

One key is limited to sixty requests per minute. The playground, which uses your browser session rather than a key, is limited separately.

Anything illegal where you are or where we operate. Generating material that sexually exploits children, or content intended to harass, defraud or impersonate a specific person.

Reselling access as a general-purpose model API. Building a product on top of Dawnstack is exactly what this is for; reselling the raw endpoint is not, for the same reason our own suppliers restrict it.

Attempting to get around a rate limit, a licence restriction or a balance check.

If we suspend an account we will say why, to the email address on it, and any unspent balance is refundable unless the suspension is for fraud.

Some models are published under licences that forbid commercial use. Nobody can legally serve those to you, ourselves included, so they are absent from our catalogue rather than quietly replaced with something weaker. Where we know of such a model we say so on the models page.

A model can be withdrawn or deprecated by the company that made it, or by the supplier that runs it. When that happens we say so rather than repointing the name at a different model, because a name that silently means something else changes your output and your bill with no way for you to know.

There is no uptime guarantee, no status page and no guaranteed support response time yet. We are a small operation and promising any of those before they exist would be a promise we could not keep. When they exist this page will say what they are.

The service is provided as it is. We are not liable for what a model outputs, and the models will sometimes be wrong, including confidently. Check anything that matters.

We do not guarantee that a given model stays available, stays the same price, or answers the same way over time. Model behaviour changes when the people who built it change it.

We can change these terms. If a change affects what you pay or what you may do, we will email the address on your account before it takes effect.

Dawnstack is being incorporated in Rwanda. Once it is, this section will name the company and the law that governs these terms. Until then there is no entity to sue and no jurisdiction clause worth writing, which is exactly why the notice at the top of this page is there.
